Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu is expected to seek a bailout during his visit to India this week as the archipelago nation stares at an economic crisis with fears of debt default.

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has begun his first bilateral visit to India, alongside First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, following an invitation from Indian President Droupadi Murmu. This visit comes after Muizzu's initial visits to Turkiye and China and amid efforts to restore diplomatic relations with India.

This will be Muizzu’s first bilateral visit to India, though he came to New Delhi in June to attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.
